Profile Of A Woman

Here is where get to blow my horn all about who am I and what I'm about. Sounds simple enough doesn't it?

NAME: Anne Freeman
NICKNAME: Rockie
INSTRUMENT (S): Vocals
CURRENT RESIDENCE: Colorado
HOMETOWN: Los Angeles, CA
FIRST INSTRUMENT: My sisters Accordion. I use to sneak it out from under her bed until my mom busted me.

WRITE UP, SUMMARY, BACKGROUND, etc.: Growing up in L.A., I followed the same path as most young musicians. I worked my way through a myriad number of auditions till I landed a gig. Some of the groups I was involved with which helped me hone my vocal skills were “Rocky Peak,” “Red Shoes,” “Rip City” and “Head First” We played right along side some of the most popular L.A. bands that eventually got signed, and at the usual local venues like The Troubadour, Starwood, Whiskey and Wong's West. It was a great time to be a musician in Los Angeles but I've always considered those days a revelation in bad timing. Though I wouldn't consider any of my past endeavors as failures because I learned so much from every project I’ve been involved with. I grew as an artist and came into my own as a woman. Female vocalist’s in rock bands was not a popular idea back when I started. I like to think that in some small way my efforts paved the way for other women looking for their own niche in the rock genre.

Along with the local club scene I managed to get involved with other projects in the studios as well as put together a 50's R&B cover band called Rockie Turane and Co. I had the privilege of working with some very fine musicians in that project. James Pettiway, Cornelius Bumpus and Jerome Lee. It was then that I moved into my blues mode. I joined “Frenz,” whose line up consisted of some of the finest musicians I had ever had the privilege to work with. We covered everything from Hendrix to Joplin. We also recorded some originals at Group Four recordings. We created some serious magic during those sessions. Two of those songs, "No Rescue" and "People Blues" were featured on KLOS, Local licks radio show.

Since I've moved to Colorado I have been working on putting together a project that encompasses my love of alternative, hard rock and Europe's melodic and classical metal sub cultures. I’m happy to say that the new band is in process.  We will soon debut our new web sight and will start booking soon. At this point in my life it’s all about the music and enjoying my good fortune at being able to continue pursuing my love of music. I hope the result of my musical endeavors bring as much joy to others, as it gives to me.
